getting to Salamanca without breaking the bank

My daughter is attending the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. She needs an inexpensive way to get from Edinburgh to Salamanca to vist a friend during a school break in November. Ryan Air doesn't fly there. Any ideas?

I think the least expensive way to do this would be to fly Easyjet from Edinburgh to Madrid, and then take the train from Madrid to Salamanca.

There is also a bus that goes from Madrid to Salamanca - it's very inexpensive.
