Getting to Piraeus Port in Athens, Greece for a cruise

There are 5 adults who will be in Athens, Greece, taking a cruise out of Port Piraeus. My question: if we are staying at an Athens hotel (quite possibly the Acropolis Hill Hotel), does anyone know the best, most cost-effective way for us to get to the Port from the hotel? Cost?
Thank you!

You might also consider staying in Piraeus rather than Athens, which is what we did last year when there was unrest in Athens and transportation to the port was dicey. The hotels are less expensive to start with and if you want to see Athens the hotel can arrange a tour.

That's a great help, Norma! I'll check on hotels closer to port. Do you know anything about transportation from Athens airport to that area?
Thanks!

Kim you really should check out the cruisecritics.com forum.. its all cruising, and you can look through forums that are specific to the actual cruise line you are taking, the ports you are embarking from, and visiting, even check in with others who will be on your cruise on same dates. Its a great cruising resourse, some of those people have taken dozens of cruises and know tons of tips.

If you do stay in Athens, Piraeus is an easy Metro ride from central Athens, just verify the Metro times to make sure you get to the dock for your cruise if an early morning departure. From the Metro/train station in Piraeus, it may be best to take a cab to the cruise docks, you could walk, but it is a hike.

Kim, there is a bus that runs from the airport to Piraeus. If you google a bit you will find it. We were going to do that but then the buses were not running due to strikes, etc., so our hotel in Piraeu arranged, for a fee, to pick us up.
