Getting to Nice from Gap in France

We will be in Gap, France and need to get to the train station in Nice by 9:30 in the morning. Seems it's about a three 1/2 hour drive. Does anybody out there have any brilliant suggestions on the best way to accomplish this? Thanks!!

No brilliant suggestions come to mind. The non-brilliant and obvious way is to either leave Gap at 5:00 am or get yourself to Nice the night before.

LOL.. thanks for the non-brilliant suggestion. I guess I should have made myself clearer. I am wondering if anybody knows of a METHOD of transportation for that trip. Car rental? Bus? The train doesn't run from Gap to Nice. I'm not familiar at all with the town of Gap and am having a hard time coming up with any real information on what might be available there for a mode of transportation. But thanks for stating the obvious.. :)

There are train and bus connections from Gap to Nice, but they take forever. So you'd have to go the night before, unless you rent a car....and even then, you'd have to leave Gap by around 5 am to give you enough time to make the journey and drop off the car. Check TGV-Europe.com (on the second page, select Great Britain as your ticket pickup point...to keep it in English) and you'll find one train/day....around 2:15 pm arriving Nice 10:30 pm, with a 2.5 hour layover in Marseilles. One bus a day, also leaving around 2:15 pm and taking about six hours to make the run.

There are a couple of other connections that show at the German rail website, bahn.de . The fastest is still 6 1/2 hours, and none will get you to Nice by 9:30 am

Sounds like we need to rent a car and leave rather early in the AM! Anybody know any car rental companies that operate out of Gap? Thanks for the suggestions so far!!

Suggest you call AutoEurope, who are brokers, and would know about Gap or closest other town.

I am sure I am missing something obvious, but if you are catching a train from Nice to someplace, wouldn't the question be, how do I get from Gap to "someplace?"--rather than to Nice?

Or are you just meeting someone at the station?
