I will be in Zurich on business and have a few days to travel on my own before I need to be in Lyon. It looks like buying point-to-point tickets may be the most economical option, but I have less than a day to get back from Lyon to Zurich. Will regional trains and 2nd class tickets get me back to Zurich in that space of time? I am contemplating a 2-country Eurail pass for those 6 days just to ensure a timely return to Zurich.

You need to provide more information. Why are you going back to Zurich? If it for a return flight you might be better off getting an open-jaw ticket with return from either Lyon or Paris.

I fly into Zurich and then finish business obligations on a Saturday midday near Berne. I don't need to be in Lyon until late afternoon Monday. Then I will have about 24 hours (midday Wednesday to midday Thursday) to get back to Zurich for a flight back to USA. The tickets between US and Zurich are fixed, but I can take my time getting to Lyon. I'm exploring options for the 24 hours or so between finishing in Berne and having to be in Lyon. Looking for suggestions as this is my first time to travel in that area.
