I am planning a trip to Croatia in June and would like to fly round trip from SF to Munich or Frankfurt. I'm having a hard time finding flights (and would consider other modes of transportation) from those cities to northern Croatia (Istria or Rijeka?). If any one has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated!!

From Frankfurt or Munich, the closest you're likely to get by plane is Zagreb. TUIFly will fly from Munich to Rijeka, but only as of 26 July. TUIfly does fly to Rijeka from Cologne (Wed, Fri, and Sat) for about 50 Euro, from Hanover (Wed & Sat) from 69 Euro, and from Stutgart (Tue, Thur, Sat) from as low as 15 Euro! You may want to consider taking a train from Frankfurt to Cologne, or from Frankfurt or Munich to Stuttgart.

Croatia Airlines has flights to Pula from both Munich and Frankfurt.

Germanwings.com fly Munich to Zadar and Split. Lufthansa/United fly into Munich's Terminal 2, Germanwings is in Terminal 1.
