getting to CDG airport from Rue Cler area

My husband and I are renting an apartment on the Rue Cle in May--we will take a taxi to the apartment from the airport, but getting back is a dilemma--I'm not sure how to call and arrange for a taxi---in Rick's France 2010 he lists Airport Connection shuttle--anybody every used them? Or, has anyone ever arranged their own taxi in advance in Paris? Thanks!

You can call a taxi company yourself. As an example, see the site for les Taxis Bleus. Click on the British flag icon for English.

For what it's worth:

I speak fluent, idiomatic french. I once tried to arrange my own taxi, thought it was a done deal, and it didn't show up.

There are taxi ranks near Rue Cler at both the Ecole Militaire and La Tour-Maubourg metro stations. For some reason it sticks in my mind that some cabs won't go out to CDG, but others in the same rank will.

I have had hotels successfully arrange taxis, but have no idea who they called or what they said.

I have no experience with shuttles.

Where it I, depending on the time of the flight, I'd use the metro/RER route since it's not subject to surface traffic congestion.

From what Ed says, ordering a taxi over the phone could be problematic. When you first arrive in Paris you could walk by the taxi ranks at either Ecole Militaire or La Tour-Maubourg and see how early in the morning you'll find taxis there.

However, unless you need to be at CDG really early before the trains are running, I'm with Ed. Take the metro and RER. Or take the metro to Opera and the Roissybus nonstop from there to CDG.

I have no idea, looking at the times, how Tim's first post jumped in front of mine, but his cumulative two have jogged my feeble memory.

What the hotel person said (and then I must have dottered off since the cab was not for me but for the folks I had been traveling with) was something to the effect that he would have "to call the right taxi". I may have well confused this with whether or not all taxis in the ranks will actually go to CDG, but I can't be sure. It's been too long since I've used a taxi for anything except to get people who where tired of walking back to a hotel.

Tim's second post brings up two more points.

1 -- I'm pretty sure (but I'm not a late night person) that one reason the taxi ranks are often located at the metro stations is that they run all night and the metro does not; thus the availability of a taxi at any hour would not be an issue, but do what Tim said and check to be sure.

2 -- Depending on what time you need to leave for the airport, the metro may or may not be running yet. My personal gouge is that the metro runs from six am until midnight, but that gives me a slight saftey factor. Tim, who has an encyclopedic knowledge of everything in the world that runs on rails, routinely slaps me silly with exact times things start and end, but I have no idea where he gets his information. If he comes back along he'll add some sense to my ideas.

Ed may well be right that there are taxis in the ranks 24/7, but I've never taken a taxi in Paris so I certainly don't know.

The first line 8 metro train leaves Ecole Militaire at 05:23. With connections, the earliest carmen would arrive at CDG is 06:29. For the record, I got this information from the Journey Planner on the RATP (Paris transportation) site.

Be aware that the RER B line divides northeast of Paris. Be sure to get on a train that is going to CDG.

Hi Carmen, In July '09 I walked into the Hotel Leveque located on Rue Cler and asked if they would make an airport shuttle request for me. I paid 20 Euros up front, got a receipt and paid the driver 20 Euros two days later (total 40 Euros for two people to CDG). I did have to catch the shuttle in front of the Hotel Leveque.

Carmen, We rented an apt. on Rue St Domonique last Oct - also in the Rue Cler area. When we left for CDG early in the AM, we used the RER from Pont d'Alma. There is a ticket office there, but not open 24/7, so we purchased our tickets (8 euro @) a couple days ahead (for use at any time) and walked to the station (go down the steps on the right for the RER) and were at CDG less than 30 minutes later. Have a wonderful time - we're ready to return! Jean This is the site I used: http://parisbytrain.com/rer-train-from-paris-to-roissy-charles-de-gaulle-cdg-airport/
