Getting from Venice to Arles

What is the quickest way to get from Venice to Arles, either by train or plane? This is the one part of my trip that's giving me problems because I can't seem to find a decent option that doesn't take all day. Any help is appreciated and I'd prefer to avoid night trains if possible. Thanks!

You could fly Baboo Airlines from Venice Marco Polo to Nice (no flights on Saturdays) and take the train from Nice to Arles. However, you'll use up most of a day doing it.

You could get an early morning flight on Alitalia from Venice to Lyon, take a train to Avignon, and a bus from there to Arles in a lot less time; but your plane ticket will cost you dearly.

It's too bad you want to avoid night trains. You can take a night train from Venice to Dijon, a TGV from there to Avignon, and a bus from there to Arles. Leave Venezia Santa Lucia at 19:57 and be in Arles at 10:10. See the timetables at www.bahn.de.

Not everyone would consider a day spent travelling/sightseeing from Venice to Arles as being wasted. If you are there to "see" France and Italy you will see more from the ground than from the air.

After I wrote my first post, it occured to me that on a national carrier a roundtrip ticket for Venice-Lyon might be cheaper than a one-way ticket. Sure enough. While the one-way fare is around $800 US, the roundtrip fare can be as low as $150 US. Book a roundtrip ticket and throw away the return protion.
