Is there a resonably priced public way to get to the cruise ship dock from Marco Polo airport in or should we just bite the bullet and pay the $30 pp. charged by the cruise? After the cruise, we will be taking a train to Rome, so we also wanted to know about getting to the train station from there. On a past trip, we had paid a lot for more for the public water taxi (through our travel company). On way back bought the public water bus and it seemed a lot cheaper that way - and it was easy. Any information out there about this? thanks, Chris
An easy way to get from the airport to certain areas of Venice, including the cruise ship area can be found at http://www.alilaguna.it/ Avoid the water taxi if you can. It's 80-100 euro.
You wouldn't by any chance be going on the royal caribbean cruise to athens, mykonos, corfu etc...would you? my wife and i are going on this cruise as well!
Yes! That's the one! I've checked out the company we got our air fare with and they could probably get us a car or a private boat for hundreds - yes, hundreds of dollars. You can splt the cost with several people but it was still pretty steep. The dock is not that far but too far to walk of course. When I said it was too much, the agent said "Well, this is Venice after all! I don't think they charge for the air to breath....yet!" Ha ha....what are you doing about this? I was just getting ready to check the Alilaguna website on the other posting. I recognize the name and we did use them for getting around when we were in Venice before. We may just pay for the cruise's transfer at this point. Chris
ATVO runs regular buses from Marco Polo to Piazza le Roma. The bus takes 20 minutes and costs €3. You can find the schedule by going to www.veniceairport.it and following the links Transports > Public Transports > Bus connections... Santa Lucia railway station.
It looks like there is a pedestrian bridge from Piazza le Roma to the cruise terminal.
You quoted your travel agent: "When I said it was too much, the agent said "Well, this is Venice after all! I don't think they charge for the air to breath....yet!""
You need to get a new travel agent. With Alilaguna running from the airport to the cruise ship terminal for less than 10 Euro a ticket, your agent either doesn't know Venice or is ripping you off for a private transfer.
Thanks to everyone for all the information! I did find the ATVO bus website which was very helpful.
The contact at Alilaguna just wrote right back to explain how to get to the Stazione Marittima from the airport using their boat - 15 euro. Not bad!! Chris
Chris, we actually bought our airfare from the cruise line and it included transfers from the airport to the cruise dock. Good luck with the transfer! This is our first time crusing, so we are pretty excited.
Dear Cat: See email below from Alilaguna. (private company who run the water taxi type service around the area) There is also a public water bus - ACTV:You can check them out at http://www.actv.it/english/navigazione.php?pagina=tariffe_vaporetto/
I sent them an email also to ask about getting to the cruise ships but have not heard back yet.
What time are you getting in to the airport? We get in around 10 am from Rome and then should have plenty of time to figure all this out. You can email me directly if you want to - [email protected]
Dear Customer,
The Alilaguna service from the Airport to Stazione Marittima works only on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 09.00 to 16.00 every half hour. Remember that to arrive to Stazione Marittima is necessary to change boat at San Marco stop. The cost of the journey is 15 Euro per passenger, including bags (are
allowed 2 bags per person: one hand bag and one big bag)
Sincerely
Alilaguna Staff
Chris,
You stated:
"The contact at Alilaguna just wrote right back to explain how to get to the Stazione Marittima from the airport using their boat - 15 euro. Not bad!!"
Can you tell me about that? I, too, am going on the Splendour of the Seas (next week) and am wondering about getting to/from the ship from the airport.
Thanks for your help!
For us cruisers going out of Venice.....
My cell phone carrier T-Mobile just informed me that the cruiselines charge around $5.99 per minute for cell phone useage onboard because calls use the cruiseline networks. Even though I have "roaming" benefits which covers me in Italy, any calls made onboard - even checking your voicemail could cost a LOT! I remember receiving large charge after checking my voicemwhile on a Caribbean cruise so this could be the reason. This may have been discussed elsewhere, but just thought I would mention it for what it's worth. :-)
