Besides Airtrain, I am told there is a United shuttle bus that goes from terminal A to C. I know it is supposed to be slower than the train but I am also told you don't have to go through security again once you get to Terminal C. Is this true? Can anyone recommend one over the other? Thanks--

Yes, there is a bus between terminals A/C that allows you to stay air-side. It's only available to United customers. United only has a few flights that use terminal A these days so I don't know how frequent it is.
