Getting from Siena to Florence

We need to turn in a rental car in Siena (near train station) and take train to Florence SMN.....or hire a driver to take us from Siena car rental office to Florence train station. There are 4 in our group.
Thanks, Monte

The fare on the train from Siena to Florence SMN is currently 7.70Euro. A taxi might be nice but I'm betting it will cost a whole lot more. I would estimate 100Euro (50Euro for each direction for the driver). Plus, you better be sure that 4 people and the luggage will fit in a taxi. Otherwise, you will need a larger taxi and that will be a few more Euros.

Monte, The easiest and cheapest option will be to turn-in the rental car in Siena, and then travel by train or Bus to Florence. The travel time is comparable. Since you'll be in the station area anyway, train would be the logical choice. There are numerous Regionale direct trains on that route with a travel time of 1H:32M (DON'T forget to validate!). The current fare is listed as €7.70 PP. The departures are almost hourly, so you won't have long to wait for a train. Note that you'll be travelling from Siena to Firenze SMN station. Happy travels!

Definitely take the train. If the 4 of you only have one carry-on sized bag each, they should fit in the trunk of your taxi. To be safe, let the taxi company know there are 4 of you AND luggage any time you need to call, as opposed to getting a taxi from a taxi stand where you and the taxi drivers can see each other.
