Getting from Seattle to Edmonds

Hi...I was hoping someone might know the best reasonably priced way to get from the Seattle Tacoma International Airport to Edmonds, WA...I don't mind the length of time...a bus/buses are fine...I'd prefer to spend as little as possible...thanks!

When are you going?

If you are arriving on a weekday afternoon, you can take a direct bus from the airport to downtown (174/194, I believe) and a direct bus from downtown to Edmonds (416).

On the weekend/off-peak times, you'll have to grab the 174/194 to downtown, grab the 511 to Lynnwood Transit Center, and change to the 110 to Edmonds. (Cheapest fare option)

You can type in the route numbers on the site for exact schedules. The off-peak routes come somewhat frequently, but planning ahead could save you some extra waiting around.

Brady - so many people on this forum live in WA (and are probably going to the classes), just ask for a ride. ;) Washington through the back door. Grin.

(I'm going, but not until the afternoon, if my plans change though, I'll let you know.)

Brady, when are you traveling? One hint for that route is to check traffic at wsdot.wa.gov it can be bad from SeaTac to Edmonds depending on time of day, and there are some major construction projects on I-5 that just started, taking it down to two lanes at some points. FYI!
Another option is The Sounder (commuter light rail). It's a short taxi ride from SeaTac to the Tukwila Station (5-10mins, just down the hill), and there is a stop in downtown Edmonds. http://www.soundtransit.org/x71.xml Good way to go if traffic is bad. Hope that helps!

Thanks, Chris...the more options, the better...I'm scheduled to arrive at the airport around 10:30 am...looks like I'd be hanging around till afternoon, but that's cool...I'm thinking about checking out the SciFi Museum and Experience Music Project anyway...

Brady,

I'm assuming from your Post that you haven't considered using a rental car? That will provide the greatest flexiblity and ease of getting around. I often find that using the 99 (Aurora) is faster than I-5, which may be more important considering the freeway work that Chris mentioned.

The Sounder is certainly an option, however the schedules for this appear to be tailored specifically for morning and afternoon rush hours. If you're arriving at 10:30, there are no trains scheduled until late afternoon.

I'm also assuming that you're travelling to Edmonds to attend an event at ETBD? Have you booked a Hotel yet?

Cheers!

Ken,

Thanks for the reply...I'm looking forward to the Travel Festival next weekend...I considered a car, but I'm trying to keep costs as low as possible (and I don't mind spending some time in Seattle--never been there)...so far, only $400 for R/T flight and 4 nights hotel....

Hi I work for Metro Transit and here's the deal. Metro's Rt 194 is a real quick ride from SeaTac to downtown Seattle. Then you should get the Sound Transit rt 511 northbound on 4th Av at Union St and take it to the Lynnwood Transit Center and have someone pick you up or take a local bus or taxi from there

Thanks Janice...I was thinking of taking the 194 to the 358 to the CT101 or 118...would the 511 be quicker?

Quicker probably & definitely more pleasant! Also, where are you heading on the 101/118? The 110 is the best bus that goes to the waterfront (where the travel center is), so unless your hotel is elsewhere, that's what bus you'll want to grab. The 101 never leaves Hwy. 99 & the 118 doesn't go down to (or near) the waterfront.
