We are renting a car in Avignon and will be traveling for several days and are planning on turning the car in in Nice - as it is very expensive to return cars to countries other than where you rented them from. What is the best way to get to Italy from Nice? Thank you

The fastest route by train from Nice to Civitavecchia (note spelling) is along the coast and takes 8 hours. See the German Rail site for detailed timetables and maps of all routes. Your budget airline choices for Nice-Rome (FCO) are Blu-express and easyJet. Take a regional train from the airport to Roma Trastevere and another regional train from there to Civitavecchia.
