My flight from La Gaurdia airport is at 3:35pm. I'm going to be taking a bus to Manhattan and arriving in Manhattan around 9pm. Just wondering what was the best method for you guys? Obviously I would like to get there as early as possible. Thanks in advance. :)
There is no subway. You have to use shuttles, buses or taxi. Check out these links. http://www.goairlinkshuttle.com/ and http://www.ny.com/transportation/airports/LGA.html
My experience is that a taxi to mid town costs from $30 (no traffic) to $45 with traffic. There are tolls that you pay for.

Sorry, I meant at 9am.
To the other poster - are you sure there's no subway service? Sorry for my typo.
Ashley - no subway all the way to LaGuardia. But you can take the subway to buses that will get you there. Seems like you would have plenty of time.
No subway service to Laguardia. The bus is a hassle and takes....forever with changes.
Here's a page of the choices you have.
Ground Transportation to Laguardia
I usually just take a cab but you might look into the shared services.
If your'e taking a bus into Manhattan, I'm guessing you're arriving at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. From there, Supershuttle will charge you $15 and make multiple stops. You'll have to reserve ahead of time. Links to Supershuttle and PrimeTime Shuttle, two national companies, are found in the link above.
Doug & Frank: I was looking at directions, I was going to take a combination of the Subway and then a bus from Queens. A shuttle bus is more expensive but I'll take a shuttle bus if I have to.
Steve: What do you mean I would 'have to change' ? I would have to change buses?
That was what I was thinking of doing; taking the subway to Astoria in queens and then riding the MTA bus to La Guardia.
If you want to take the MTA, here's what I suggest (I was born and raised in Queens so I know the area):
N/Q train to Astoria, M60 bus to Laguardia. The neighborhood where you change is so-so, but you should be okay during the day.
Your other options are listed here
Laguardia Service
Use the Metrocard and the transfer between the subway and bus is free. I believe the entire fare will be $2.25 (including the free transfer.)
Now, if you like Asian food, and want to stop for lunch before heading out to Laguardia, take the #7 train to Main St/Flushing. This area is now the largest Asian community in NYC. Lots of noodle shops up and down Main St. From here grab the Q48 bus to Laguardia. (But don't take more than 45 minutes or you lose the transfer.)
Hopefully, you don't have a lot of luggage. If you do, this is not a good idea.
Frank - Thanks so much! I am from New York area also, but long island so I don't know the city as well as I should. I was in Astoria a few weeks ago actually, visiting friends. Is Astoria really that bad at night? What a shame, it's pretty cool during the day.
I only have one bag, a carry on, trying to make the 20lb limit so I don't have to pay to check my bag on any airline. It's like a giant backpack (pretty much exactly what is recommended in rick's books lol) Do you think I'll be okay walking around with it in astoria? I've locked it also for extra safety. :P
The bus stop is across the street from the subway station in Astoria so there is no need to "walk around."
You'll be fine during the day. It's a busy intersection.
Are you going from the Island to LaGuardia or coming in from somewhere else?
Steve writes:
If you are coming in on the LIRR, just take it all the way to Grand Central Station, then take the Airport bus from just outside the entrance.
LIRR is not connected to Grand Central....only Penn Station.
The OP stated she is taking a "bus" into Manhattan. I think that rules out the LIRR.
Ashley, if you're coming in from Long Island, you may be able to bypass Manhattan to get to Laguardia. If from somewhere else, then your plan to take the subway and bus from Manhattan is definitely the cheapest--although it may not be the easiest. While estimates say the entire trip should take about 45 minutes to an hour, I suggest giving yourself more time just in case of traffic and subway delays--all too common.
Have a great trip.
