We will be leaving ETBD Turkey tour on April 26, 2008 in Kusadasi, Turkey. We need to be in Athens on April 27. What are recommendations on ferry/boat service? What are the other options?
Hi Bob,
This is not much time to get to Athens, so you may need to also check into flights depending on the time that you need to be in Athens.
You can take a boat from Kusadasi (about 2 hours) to Samos. Once you get to Samos, you can either fly or take a boat. Samos has an airport and flights to Athens. Check online for one-way tickets. If you want to take the boat to Athens, you will likely need to go to Samos and then switch to a different boat in Samos. There are ferries from Samos to Piraeus (port for Athens), but you may need to change along the way and the trip would probably be at least 12 hours from Samos.
I also suggest the route mentioned: Kusadasi:Samos:Athens. Since your time is tight and it sounds like you can't handle a ferry delay, go with flying. Aegean Air flies from Samos to Athens for less than $100.
