So the flight prices from Greece to Switzerland are ridiculous. We will need to take a ferry from Greece back to Italy, then a train to Switzerland. The last island of our Greek trip is Ios....this is rather inconvenient considering we need to get back to a Greek port that ferries to Italy...what would be the best route and how long will it take? (if using high speed ferry)
By ferry, there really is no good way. From Ios, you would catch the ferry to Piraeus/Athens, then train or bus to Patras, catch the ferry to Bari, Italy; then train to Switzerland; at least two full days of travel. A variation might be ferry from Patras to Venice, if you happen to hit the schedule right, but that is really no better. I would consider a Ferry to Athens, an Aegean Air flight to someplace in Italy (Rome, Milan, or Venice), then train to Switzerland. Timing may be an option, for a flight, I would be tempted to adjust my itinerary and be in Athens the night before, catch an early flight, and probably be in Switzerland that afternoon. Aegean Air will be cheaper than the options you are looking at. Consider any baggage restrictions of course, and be aware that Aegean air may not fly a route everyday, multiple times a day, further affecting your itinerary.
amanda, With regards to your other Thread, I still feel that a flight to Italy from either Santorini or Athens is the most time and cost effective route. You might get some good information on Ferries by checking This Excellent Website. There's LOTS of information on just about every topic of travelling in Greece. Good luck!
Wonderful advice, thank you again! I found that flying out of Mykonos will actually be cheaper (by about $100) than flying out of Santorini. Thanks again everyone!
