Getting from hotel to Bergen Airport for Saturday 6 am flight

While we weren’t going that early in the morning, the Light Rail was easy to use, both from and to the airport. Presuming that it’s not so dark that you can’t find your way onto the train, it’ll be a smooth and relatively affordable option.

4:55am is the earliest arrival time for Flybussen at Bergen’s airport which is cutting it far too close for comfort. That leaves taxis, Bolt and Uber as your options.

The probable reason the first bus arrives at 4:55 is because that is sufficient time for the first flight of the day. Check the opening hours of the airport. If you arrive to early you may end up having to wait outside till the place opens.

When the Bybanen opened that was a revolutionary moment for transport in the city- having done both the bus and the Bybanen in most circumstances I would always take the train nowadays. In some ways I was surprised that the bus survived. The tram/light rail is in my opinion much the better way to do the journey.

From everything I've read, Bergen Airport is not open 24 hours a day, but they do open two hours before the first scheduled flight, so that would be 4:00 in this case, unless there's something earlier. If it were me, then I would take the light rail. On Friday night, it runs all night, so you can catch the train a little after 3 at Byparken, and you'll get there shortly before 4:00.

The train takes around 45 minutes from the city center to the airport. I think that would be your best bet, and that's what I would do if I were there. In fact, that's what I will do when I'm there in July. 😊

Thanks for the link to the light rail schedule. I cross-checked the schedule with Skyss mobile app, it confirmed the light rail runs until 4 a.m. every day this summer. Since it only allows schedule searches up to mid-October, I am not sure what the schedule will be like outside the summer season.

Additionally, there appears to be some maintenance work occurring this July. The journey to the airport from downtown Byparken station will involve a combination of light rail and bus. Anyone planning to take this route might want to keep that in mind.

Great question about the airport's opening hours. Online searches suggest an opening time of 4 a.m., as commented by Mardee, so it should work for my schedule.

But I started to wonder if it might be a better idea to fly to AMS at a later hour and stay there overnight for my connecting flight back to the US. I despise the idea of getting up at wee hours to go to the airport for a very early morning flight!

I can't say that I blame you. I've gotten more and more picky about flights like that as I get older. I hate the idea of getting up at the crack of stupid, as Stuart would say. 😊

There are two hotels at the airport- the Comfort Hotel and the Scandic Flesland.

Both I think are pretty new, as I don't remember them but then I've never been looking for an Airport Hotel. They certainly weren't there when I went down to Flesland Pier for the ferry into the city (the old Stavanger to Bergen local ferry), but that's a good few years ago now.

They are both a short walk from the terminal, not actually there at the terminal. Possibly worth relocating for that last night? The Comfort is probably about 1/2 km, and the Scandic seems to be about 1km.

There is also a Clarion on the city side of the airport, but street view shows it is in a confusing mess of car parks, so an odd location without a car, but looks to have good runway views.

Checking into an airport hotel is an excellent idea. But if staying an additional day after the end of tour is part of the itinerary, I would rather spend the night near AMS airport where I will have my connecting flight back to US.
