What, in your opinion, is the best low-cost way of getting from Heathrow to my hotel in the West End?
The Tube. Take the Picadilly Line direct from Heathrow to Leicester Square. Fare will be five pounds: http://www.tfl.gov.uk
Piccadilly Line Tube is the cheapest way. Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Green Park, Hyde park Corner all on Piccadilly line. Not sure where you are in "West End: but the worst would be a couple of Tube changes. If you have an undue amount of luggage chaging Tubes may be a little inconvenient. And you will need to negotiate stairs or elevators to get out of the ube
Actually many stations, such as South Kensington, have escalators from the Piccadilly Line to the surface, so if you have luggage you can take it instead of actual stairs. Or, the Gloucester Road station, for example, has no escalator but an elevator from the Piccadilly Line platform to the station lobby, so no struggle up stairs for that ride either. There are stairs (no escalator) at Gloucester Road from the Central and Circle Line platforms though.
