On our return flight to the USA we fly into Gatwick at about 22:00 and then are scheduled to fly out of Heathrow at 15:50 the next day. I was thinking we would say near Gatwick the night and make our way over to Heathrow the next morning. I need suggestion on a place to stay and what would be the best way to get to Heathrow. Any help is appreciated.
Phil
There are numerous hotels around Gatwick including the Yotel which is actually in one of the terminals. You pay by the hour. There's one at Gatwick and Heathrow http://www.yotel.com/ There is a scheduled bus service between Gatwick and Heathrow run by National Express. http://www.nationalexpress.com/coach/airport/London-Gatwick-Airport.aspx
However- if you can get up early, you do have an opportunity to train into London from gatwick, take a walk around the City and then train out to heathrow. Otherwise all you will see is the two airports and the view from a bus window in between
When we did this, we opted for a hotel that was on the trainline to Heathrow. We spent the evening walking around after dinner. The next day, all we had to do was walk 10 mins to the train ststion and a 30 minute ride to Heathrow.p
Thanks for the help! Since we get in so late, (22:00), I think that a hotel near Gatwick would be best, but I like the idea of getting up and seeing a little of London in the morning. However, luggage is a bit of an issue. Has anyone checked their luggage at the rail station and done some site seeing. Are there lockers or is it an attendant that checks your luggage?
Phil
When I did it the train from Gatwick arrived at Victoria. There is a large "left luggage' facility at Victoria with an attendant behind the counter. Or you could use Paddington, but I havent used 'left luggage" there so cant comment
Every one of the main terminus stations in London has a Left Luggage facility. They are at this website You need to be prepared to have the pieces x-rayed. They charge by the piece.
