Lynette, It's going to be difficult to fit your criteria of "best, cheapest and/or fastest way" to get from Frankfurt to Krakow. The cheapest method is travel by train, however the trip will be 16-18 hours long, with several changes. The fastest method is via budget airline (which may not be entirely "cheap"). You might have a look at Air Berlin as they have flight from FRA (via Berlin Tegel) to KRK, with a travel time of 2H:55M. The current price shown is as low as €233.99 (may be cheaper if you book further in advance of the flight). You could also check LOT (Polish Airlines) as they appear to have direct flights from FRA to KRK, with a travel time of ~1H:30M (some flights operated by Lufthansa). I didn't check the prices. You'll have to decide whether "cheapest" with a long travel time or "fastest" at higher cost will work best for you. Good luck and happy travels!

8 to 9 or so hours driving - might meet one of your criteria...

Nigel, Good point - I forgot about driving! My preference would still be a budget flight. Even with the "hassles" of air travel, 1.5 hours is MUCH preferable to 9 to 18 hours of travel. Cheers!

BTW As we are discovering how difficult it is in 2011 to travel there using modern transportation, it may help put, a tiny bit, into perspective the horrific journey the poor victims had to their fate. Imagine taking two or three times as long to do a similar journey in the 1930s and 1940s, forced into cattle cars with no facilities, food or seats. Cheek by jowl. And the reception they had when they arrived. .... Never forget...
