Getting from Frankfurt Airport to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport

I am arriving at the Frankfurt Airport from SFO on Oct. 21 and need to get to Frankfurt-Hahn to fly Ryanair to VCE. What is the best way to get there and how much time should I have between flights?

And what do you do if your flight is 1-2 hours late arriving? RyanAir is a "no excuses" airline. Better to spend the night near the airport and finish the journey the next day.

First you need to figure out the logistics. What airline are you flying with? This will tell you which terminal you will be arriving in. If it is Terminal 1, you will need to go to Terminal 2 with the Skytrain Monorail to pick up the bus to Hahn. This will take about 10 min. total. Once you land, you will need about 30 min. before you emerge into the airport proper. Have you checked your flight on a daily basis to see if it is arriving on time, delayed or early? What is the schedule for the buses? Does it fit in with your landing time and all the above logistics? I would figure on 45-60 min. for all of the above and to find your way to the pick-up point. Add in your travel time on the bus to go 120 km. and you will get your arrival time at Hahn. Does this fit in with your departure time? My guess is no. You have about 3 hours dedicated to just arriving, finding the bus, and riding the bus, leaving you about 15 min. window of time to check in at Hahn. They close their boarding gates at 45 min. before the flight, no exceptions. You can stay at Hahn over night or see about a later flight perhaps, but I don't believe that 4 hours is anything close to being sufficient.

RyanAir has only one flight on Oct 21 from Hahn to Venice (currently using VCE because Treviso is closed for construction) and it leaves Hahn at 11:30. There is a Bohr bus that arrives at Hahn at 9:15, which should be sufficient time. It leaves FRA (Terminal 2, exit E9) at 7:30. Since the bus leaves from Terminal 2, if you arrive at Terminal 1, you'll have to take the Skyline. I'd add 15-20 min to allow for finding it the first time. There is a non-stop flight from SFO but it gets in in the afternoon. There is a Delta flight from Atlanta, but it gets in (T2) at 7:40 on 10/21, after the bus leaves. There is also a Lufthansa flight from Atlanta, but it gets in even later. There is a Lufthansa flight from Chicago, arriving 6:50 at Terminal 1. I think it would be iffy. There is also a Luftahansa flight from Chicago arriving 5:45, and a USAir flight from Philly arriving at 6:10. I hope you are on one of those. I'm sure there are other flights I missed. So, what IS your scheduled arrival time, airline, etc? Up_date: John PM'd me to say his flight was due into FRA at 9:45. That is obviously too late to get a flight out of Hahn at 11:30. He is using FF miles for a flight out of FRA.
