Getting from Fiumicino Airport to Airbnb in near Vatican City

My wife and I are arriving at Fiumicino Airport and using the Trenitalia App to take a train to Termini Station. I would first like to know if the Leonardo Express is the best option. I would also like to know the best way to get from Termini Station to Vatican City between bus or metro options. Thank you

Taking the train will cost €28 and then you would still have to get from Termini to your lodgings. For two people, I’d opt for an official taxi from the airport to the Air B&B. Should cost about €50 and is worth the convenience after a long flight.

You might also consider taking the FL1 train to Trastevere and changing to the FL3 or FL5 train to San Pietro. Hard to say "Vatican City" is still too general. Is it north, south, east, or west of Vatican City?

The total cost to take the train to Termini and then another transport to Vatican City will be almost as much as the taxi fare. It will be well worth the small amount of additional cost to not have to hassle with the luggage and changing transports. Just be sure to use the official taxi rank and not one of the independent drivers who might approach you in the terminal.

jlb2151, are you staying near Termini and wanting to go to Vatican City on the day after arrival, or staying near the Vatican?

Also, when are you planning to do this trip? There are upcoming metro station closures - 3 of them - on Line A, and tram service closures throughout the entire city to be aware of. Here's some info on the subject:

Ottaviano is the closest metro station to the Vatican. Spagna is the metro station for the Spanish Steps. Vittorio Emanuele is south of Termini and you're unlikely to use it for a first-timers trip; it's not close to any big attractions. By closing the entire metro line A "early" they mean that the entire A line will stop running at 21:00 (9:30 PM) Sundays through Thursdays. It'll run as normal on Fridays and Saturdays with the exception of trains not stopping at the 3 stations during their closure dates listed.

Just take the Leonardo Express to Termini. Then walk to the front of the station and take the escalators down to the Underground. .Take the line that goes to Ottaviano

Like Kathy said, the Ottaviano underground station is very close to the Vatican--maybe 500 yards. And the Vatican Museum is right there too. We've stayed in that neighborhood a couple of times as it has decent restaurants, etc.

I always look on Google Maps and see where my accommodations are. And I cut a copy of the map with directions. Very easy to get there.

.last time in Rome we saved a few dollars using the airport bus and local bus to get to our hotel. Never again. Take the cab and spend a few dollars but get directly to your destination. I wish I had done more research and followed the good advice of using a cab.

We also took public transit on a Sunday morning from our hotel in Rome to pick up a rental car. A cab would have been easier and made a lot more sense. I do not know if increased age has changed my decision matrix, but convenience and ease are increasing important rather than saving a few euros. In the total cost of a holiday these are minor costs. Time, also is a valuable commodity.
