My son (who has never flown on his own and is headed to Europe) is flying into Newark from Ohio and needs to get to the international terminal there for his overseas flight. Is this an easy enough thing to do (just follow signs...) or can someone who does this often offer any advice so he doesn't get confused and freak out. Thanks in advance--Monica
There are 3 terminals at Newark. Without flight info, I don't know which ones he will be using. But regardless, the 3 terminals are connected by a little train, called "AirTrain." It is very easy to use-you just follow the signs for your departing gate and they will lead you to the train if needed. It's only 2 or 3 minutes ride from one terminal to the next. The Newark Airport website has a downloadable brochure you can print out that includes a map of the airport and the trains. If you can find out the gates/terminals he will be using, you can go over the map with him before he leaves. This page includes the link for the brochure pdf: http://www.panynj.gov/airports/ewr-airtrain.html
You can see the map of the NJ airport (EWR) at www.panynj.gov/airports/ewr-airport-map.html (once again BBC fails). I assume you already know at which terminal he is arriving. The terminals are connected by the "Air Train", which runs frequently and access to it is well signed in the terminals. The down side is that the train is outside security, so he will have to go back through security at the International Terminal.
There is no such thing as a "international terminal" at Newark. Newark has three terminals. Two of the three handle overseas flights: B and C.
If your son is using United airlines, everything will be through terminal C and he won't have to go through security again. If it's other than United, then terminal B will be used. You can the the Air Train to connect to the other terminals. The terminals are so close together that one can also walk between them.
