Hi, Our family of 6 (5 adults and one child under 2) will be traveling to Paris this fall. What's the best way for us to get to our hotel from the airport? We're staying in the Latin Quarter and are not bringing our own car seat for the baby. Is it possible to take one taxi (van) altogether? Specific options/websites are greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Cecile, After pondering the question a bit longer, I agree that a Shuttle (Minivan) would be the best option, especially as it will take you right to the hotel. I travelled from Paris to CDG airport in July, and the Minivan used on my trip would EASILY fit your group. As I recall, there were at least seven passengers with luggage after the Driver had finished picking everyone up from various hotels. It may be a bit pricey, but will the best option for a jet lagged group. I usually travel solo, so the RER and Metro is not too much of a problem for me when arriving in Paris. Cheers!
Cecile, The easiest and quickest method is to travel via RER to Gare du Nord or other station along that line, and then use Metro or Taxi to get to the Hotel. You may find it helpful to have a look at the excellent parisbytrain.com website, which has LOTS of information on getting from CDG into the city. You could also pre-arrange one of the many Shuttle services (details listed in the Guidebook). If you don't have the Paris or France Guidebooks at hand, take a short drive to Edmonds and use the books in the ETBD Library (during business hours - no cost). While there you could also speak with Rick's travel experts. Happy travels!
Thank you for your responses! This helps a lot. :)
While I'm a big proponent of the Metro and RER, in your particular case I suggest that you consider taking a minivan taxi directly from CDG to your hotel. There are minivans in the taxi ranks at CDG. However, I don't know if even a minivan will be big enough for six people plus luggage. You may need two taxis. Adult tickets on the RER from CDG to central Paris cost €9.50/person. Depending upon traffic, the fare for a taxi should be around €50. You'll also pay a small supplement for more than three passengers plus their luggage. You will have to stand in line at a taxi rank to get a minivan, but you won't have to worry about a private shuttle not showing up, an all too common problem.
Minivan taxi. The ticket expense and difficulty of corralling all those people, jet-lagged and tired, through the RER and metro systems upon arrival, makes me shudder. Save your time, probably even some money, and your sanity. Take a taxi.
Let me underline again, for 6 people, the taxi option isn't pricy. It's not only easier,it's much better value for money. You would already be spending so much money to buy RER tickets for 5 adults that the taxi practically pays for itself. Yes, you will have to pay a supplement of €1 per bag over the first big bag. Still, there is no comparison for the ease you will be buying yourself with your extra (estimated) €4.60 per person more to go by taxi as compared to going by RER and metro and then schlepping your bags up and down stairs in the RER and metro and then up out of your destination station and down the street looking for your hotel.
