Getting from CDG to Gare de Lyon to take the train to Avignon

Hi -- How easy is it to go from the Charles DeGaule airport to the Gare de Lyon to take the train to Avignon?

According to the Paris transit map the RER B line goes from the airport to Gare du Nord. Change there to the RER D line, which goes through Gare de Lyon.

Take the RER commuter train from CDG to Chatelet-Les Halles station, then transfer there to an RER A2 or A4, or RER D2 or D4 train....Gare de Lyon will be one stop along. It costs just under 9 Euro per person, and should take about 45-55 minutes, depending on what time of day you're travelling

IMO, transferring to the RER D at Gare du Nord (Lee's suggestion) rather than to either the RER A or the RER D at Chatelet-Les Halles (Norm's suggestion) is better. There is less walking at Gare du Nord. Chatelet-Les Halles is huge. The fare is €8.70.

While Chatelet-Les Halles is a huge complex, you will be staying only on the RER level, without the need to venture into the rest of the station....and connecting trains will be more frequent, with 2 lines to choose from. However, making the switch to a D2 or D4 train at Gare du Nord is viable as well.

The Air France Bus goes directly from DeGaulle to Lyon for about the same price as the RER.

Depending on time of day this can be the best way to the train.

There are also a few TGVs to Avignon directly from the airport.

updated--Tim is right (below) (of course). The bus used to be just a few euros more than the RER, and was probably the reason why I made it to Beaune by mid-morning instead of afternoon. I'm enough of a cheapskate that I probably wouldn't use it now.

Norm, I'll happily concede your point.

Adam, the fare on Air France bus #4 from CDG to Gare de Lyon is €16.50 and buses run every 30 minutes. The RER runs more frequently, is faster, and is substantially cheaper (€8.70).

Also check the TGV website for direct trains from CDG to Avignon without having to go to Gare de Lyon: there are a few but if one coincides with your flight it would be a good idea.

Direct trains from CDG to Avignon TGV depart at 06:54, 08:21, 11:43, 14:28, and 17:01. Trains with one connection in Lyon depart at 09:25 and 13:01.

The reason I originally asked how easy it is to get from CDG to Gare de Lyon is because we were told that there were no trains directly from CDG to Avignon. Now that we know there are trains, it helps us greatly! Thanks so much for all the responses. Our trip will go easier now.
