You're going to kill the better part of 6 hours by train, changing trains in Innsbruck.

Do you mean by car, or train?
By train, you could:
1) North to Innsbruck, west to Zürich.
2) South to Verona in the North Italian plain, west to Milan and north to Zürich. Possibly longer, but I haven't checked.
3) The sneaky route: West by local train to Mals/Malles (end of the line). By Swiss postbus over the Ofenpass to Zernez, then by train to Chur and Zürich.
