We're arriving at the Munich hbf around midday, and we're wondering about the best way to get over to the Hofbrauhaus for a late lunch. Any suggestions?
Everything is pretty much walking distance. If you don't have too much time you could take the ubahn from the hbf to marienplatz and walk from there. It took us 10 minutes to walk from the Hbf to Marienplatz but we also walk briskly. The walk back will be longer after all that beer though! :)
Katie, if you wanted to take public transport, there is an information counter where they speak english and they could tell you which bus/train to take to get there. But, I pulled up the map of the trains, and it looks like you can hop on ANY of the eastbound S-bahns and in two stops, you'll be at Marienplatz. I'm jealous, I miss Munich!

You didn't say how you are arriving at the Hbf, whether by S-Bahn from the airport, or by train from another part of Bavaria, or from outside of Bavaria.
If you are coming in from the airport, at the airport, purchase a Gesamtnetz Partner Tageskarte (€18). That will allow you and up to 4 others to not only ride the S-Bahn from the airport, but also unlimited use of any other means of transport all day within the Munich metro district (MVV). Then the best way to the Hofbräuhaus is to take the S-Bahn to Marienplatz (or Isartor) and walk from there.
If you are coming into Munich from another part of Bavaria, and you are using a Bayern-Ticket, you can still use the S-Bahn to Marienplatz without buying additional tickets.
Lastly, if you are coming into Munich a non-regional train, or coming from outside Bavaria, you can purchase an Innenraum Partner Tageskarte for €9. That will give you unlimited use all means of transport in the inner zone of Munich for the day.
Wow, thanks for the help. That should be easy!
