What is the best way to get from the airport to the train station in Florence Italy. Also, is this the best way to get to Rome?
The best way is almost always a taxi [INVALID] door to door service for a price. There is also bus service. Are you staying in Florence before going to Rome?
No, we are staying there afterward. We land in florence, then planned to get to Rome that day.
Not sure why you are landing in Florence to go to Rome. Obviously I am missing something in the plan. Generally I would not recommend a flight to Rome IF you were already in Florence since the train is so convenient. However, since you are at the airport you should look into flights directly to Rome. Perhaps one of the discount airlines that uses the Florence airport.
We are attending a conference in Florence and now decided to go early and try to tour
The taxi is best. About 25Euro. There is also a frequent Volainbus that goes from the airport to the SITA terminal. The SITA bus terminal is about 200 yards from the main Florence train station. You do have to cross a very busy street to get to the train station but there is a light and a crosswalk as I recall. It's much less expensive.
Have you considered the possibility of an open jaw ticket? Into Rome and home from Florence. That potential could be cheaper. A one way flight from Florence to Rome would make more sense than a RT, and take the train back to Florence.
IT's only a 1h30 journey from Firenze (sorry, as a half-Italian I can't cope with "Florence") to Roma. So it should be no problem at all.
John, first of all, what is the "code" of the airport you're arriving at - FLR or PSA? I'm assuming your flight includes a change of planes in Frankfurt or another major airport? If it's FLR, you can take either the Terravision Express Coach or a Taxi to Firenze SMN station (the airport is fairly close to the city). When you arrive at the rail station, buy tickets for the EuroStar Italia/Alta Velocita to Roma Termini, either from a ticket agent or one of the automated machines (that will probably require a credit card). The trip to Rome will be about 1H:35M and second class fare is €44 (subject to change of course). You might check the Trenitalia / Ferrovie dello Stato web site and note the departure times on the afternoon you'll be arriving. There are frequent trains on that route every day, so you shouldn't have long to wait. Happy travels!
