I understand that kids up to 14 ride the trains free with a parent in Germany, but that we do need a ticket / reservation for my son. If I get a rail pass, can I still have my 13 year old son ride free and just get tickets for him for every planned use of my rail pass? I see the youth pass options - so would I need a youth pass for him or not?
I may book point to point tickets if that is the only way he can ride free with me. Just need to know - we are traveling April 3 to the 16th this year, and I know there are sales on passes prior to March 31. Id also like to take one night train and know I need to pay extra for a sleeper. I think I can make the seat reservations on the DeutscheBahn website - where I would get the point to point tickets if necessary.
