Sorry if I posted this twice, but I am looking for the right trains and where to look. I am getting nowhere using google and other sites trying to find out where on line/what train line to look at for passage from the Heidelberg Germany area (Mannheim maybe?) to Paris. I have been told there is a good price available, but I cannot find anything under 250 euros. Help! I know it is probably that I am not going to the right lines or sites! Thanks for any help!
First, Google won't cut it. Use the German Rail (Bahn) website for schedules, fares, and to order tickets. This is the only site you need.
There are certain TGV and ICE connections from Mannheim for which you can get €39 per person tickets in advance, on the German Rail website. If you write it into the ticket, it can include local transportation from Heidelberg to Mannheim. To see them, put in a date at least 3 days, but not more than 3 months, in advance. These tickets are train specific and non-refundable, but they are a great price.
Susan,
As Lee mentioned, the bahn.de website is your best resource for finding the train schedules you'll need. It's very "user friendly" so you should have no trouble finding the information.
If you haven't yet travelled by train in Europe, you might find it helpful to read the "Rail Skills" chapter in Europe Through The Back Door or download the free PDF Rail Guide from this website (click the "Railpasses" tab at the top and then look in the lower right corner).
Happy travels!
