Germany to Italy via train?

I'm planning a two week trip to England, Germany and Italy. I am using easyJet to get from London to Cologne, but I need to get from Munich to (anywhere in northern Italy). I have tried booking through DeutscheBahn, Trenitalia (on their web sites), but neither site will tell me how much the ticket will cost. I have thought about buying a Select Pass, but that seems too expensive for the limited use I'd make of it. Can anyone help me find out how much this would cost? Thanks!

Thanks, Lee. I may not have tried to book to Verona--the page typically says "fare not available." Even when I try now, it only shows pricing for one of the trips. The trip is not until May, so maybe I shouldn't be entering dates that far in advance.

I may have found my answer. Raileurope.com found a night train from munich to Venice for 141.00 eu, which includes a couchette. That might work. Any other advice would still be welcome. I've travelled in Europe before, but only in individual countries, and have never taken a train from one country to another.

The German Rail website shows four direct Eurocity trains per day going to Verona (and on to Milan, Bologna, or Venice). Full fare is €81,90, but if you book in advance (isn't that what you would do with RailEurope?) online from the Bahn you can get a fare as low as €53.

German Rail also shows the couchette 6 for €97,90, rail and accommodations. That's about $133 at todays exchange rate if you CC company charges 2% for currency exchange. German Rail will charge another $5 for mailing it; RE charges $18.

To where were you selecting? The direct trains to Bologna, Venice, and Milan all go through Verona, plus there is another EC going just to Verona.

You said anywhere in northern Italy, so I used somewhere I knew would show fares. I also found them in May.

The train to Bologna used to go all the way to Rome; I notice now it goes to Rimini.

If you put in another destination, one for which there would be a connection in Italy, the Bahn probably won't give you a fare, because they don't usually book legs completely out of the country online. They will show you the schedule, but not the fare.
