Germany railpass use on Rhine Valley milk trains

I am going to Germany next month and purchased a 4 day railpass. Is the railpass valid for use on the milk trains in the Rhine Valley like between St. Goar and Bacharach? Thanks.

WE used ours all throughout the Rhine and never had a problem. Actually it was rare that they would even come by and check our rail passes!

You can certainly use those trains, as well as the KD line of boats that travel along the Rhine.

Certainly, either the German Rail pass or the Eurail pass is valid on all the trains run by German Rail (the Bahn), and these are trains of the Bahn.

Trains up and down the Rhine valley are super-cheap - if you can save a day off your railpass I'd choose that.

If you want to save a day of your railpass, get a Laender-ticket for Rhineland-Pfalz for the days you're there. I don't know if it covers the KD boats (perhaps Lee could fill us in) but it's 19 euros/day for 1 or 29 euros/day for 2-5 people. Buying tickets as you go (if you're only going between a few cities) might even be cheaper than that.

I don't believe the Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket covers the KD boats. I've never tried to use it; maybe someone else has. The KD website doesn't indicate that they accept it. However, the KD website does say this,

"At each KD landing stage you will receive a 20% discount off the KD schedule tariffs when you present a valid German Rail ticket.".

They are not specific about which German Rail ticket they take: Is it any ticket, or only from somewhere without a KD landing stage? Could you take the train from St. Goar to Bacharach and get the discount back to St. Goar? Are Länder tickets, such as the Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket, considered valid for the discount?

The webpage for the Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket also does NOT indicate that the RL-P-Ticket is valid for KD boats, although it does indicate that can be used for the St. Goar to St. Goarshausen Loreley Ferry (Fähre).

Most of the Rhein, from Oberwesel to Remagen, and up the Mosel to Bullay, is in the Verkehrsverbund-Rhein-Mosel (VRM, local transit district), and they sell an all day pass for unlimited rides in the entire district for €17 for one person, €20 for up to five (less for day passes in a smaller areas). Note that Bacharach is just OUTSIDE the district.

BTW, someone said earlier that the RL-P-Ticket was €29 for up to five people. It's €27. The website for the RL-P-Ticket is also wrong, showing it as €26. That's last years price.

You can get all the prices for point-point tickets at the VRM website, www.vrm-info.de.

According to the Bahn website, St. Goar to Bacharach (or back, one way) is €3,10 pP.

Thanks for setting me straight - I couldn't remember the price so I guessed conservatively. We paid €27 last year and I would have expected it to go up €1 or so. (also note that it will cost €2 more if you buy it at a ticket counter)

But we did successfully use our R-P Laender ticket on the St Goar-St Goarshausen ferry/faehre last year. Regular fare is €1-2 and the ride lasts about 5 minutes from St Goar or 10 minutes from St Goarshausen. It's pretty much all day back and forth across the river.
