Germany and Italy Maps

Is it better to buy maps in U.S. or wait until arriving in Europe? We're taking GPS with European maps loaded but think we need a paper map to study also. RS said the rental car maps are not the best. Arriving in Frankfurt and driving around Germany and later in Tuscany. Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide some advice. Kyle

Michelin maps are sold here in the States by several places, sometimes AAA, sometimes Amazon. If I really knew what I was talking about I would say Michelin maps are the best.

Doesn't really matter if you buy in the US or here. Michelin maps aren't as widely available in Germany as in some other European countries, but the ADAC maps they sell here are just as good.

Go online to the viaMichellin site, where you can view and print out maps for the areas you will be visiting. That can save some money but the advantage is that you can start planning immediately without leaving the house.

Bookstores (Barnes & Noble) also sell the maps.
