Germanwings airline - reliable??

Hi all just want to thank everyone for their great advice and suggestions it has been a great help in trip planning. I had someone recommend germanwings to me on this site, but I have never heard of them. I am conerned because a couple airlines in Canada have recently gone under and I am a female traveling alone.

So just wondering has anyone flown germanwings and what was your experience? Does this seem like an airline that will stick around?

Thanks

In my opinion they are one of the more reliable low cost carriers. Just remember that as with all low cost carriers you have much less consumer rights if things go wrong due to weather, late arrival or aircraft failure as you do with full service airlines. From the point of view regarding going bust, Germanwings are looking financially quite healthy.

Germanwings is owned by Lufthansa. It's Lufthansa's reply to Ryanair, easyjet and others. They operate a fleet of young Airbus A319 and A320 (same as JetBlue). Some of the planes had been used by Lufthansa before and depending on when they joined the Germanwings fleet they may even still have Lufthansa seats inside.

Germanwings offer rail tickets to and from the Germanwings airport to any German train station for €19 one-way... so you could fly into Cologne and for only €19 take an ICE high speed train all the way down to Munich, over to Berlin or up to Hamburg...
