Is Basel like Salzburg and good with the German pass?

There are three train stations in Basel, one for Swiss Rail (SBB) and one, right next to it, for French Rail (SNCF). There is also a German Rail station, Basel Badischer (Basel Bad) Bahnhof a few km away, near the German border. German Rail passes are valid to Basel Bad Bahnhof. There is a rail connection between Basel Bad and Basel SBB and many trains between Germany and Basel SBB go through Basel Bad. If you are just going to stay in Basel, going to Basel Bad works fine. There are street cars and buses to Basel Bad. If you are going to go further into Switzerland through Basel SBB, you technically should have a train ticket between the stations or a ticket that starts in Basel Bad, but it is a short trip and you probably won't have your ticket checked (but I'm not recommending you do that). You can see the transit map of Basel, with the train stations at www.bvb.ch.
