German train fares

I’d appreciate advice regarding train tickets or passes in Germany. We are two people (seniors). Here are the details:

22 June - Berlin to Lutherstadt Wittenburg, and after spending a few hours move on to Dresden. This doesn’t seem to qualify for a ‘lander’ ticket because the cities are in different ‘lands.’ I get a ‘sparpreis’ today of 90 euro total.

25 June - Dresden to Goerlitz, probably a regional train? Found 27 euro for two.

27 June - Goerlitz to Erfurt - again doesn’t seem to qualify for a ‘lander’ ticket; ‘sparpreis’ today is 48 euro for two.

29 June - Erfurt to Eisenach to Wurzburg. I get 76 euro for both segments.

30 June - Wurzburg to Frankfurt Hbf, 36-38 euro depending on the train.

I know that if we buy the ‘sparpreis’ tix we are locked into a specific train. I’ve looked at the 2nd class flexi-pass twin and for 5 days its 335 euro, but provides flexibility.
What’s the best ticket(s) for these trips?
Or should we rent a car? :)

For June 22, you can get something called a Regio 120plus ticket for 40 Eur for 2. Leave at 10:30 on the Regional Express to Lutherstadt-Wittenberg, spend 4 3/4 hours there, then take a Regional Bahn to Leipzig and change to Regional Express to Dresden. Maintains your flexibility as long as you travel after 9 and stick to regional trains.

For June 27, you can use a Sachsen Ticket for 30 EUR for 2, Its a Laender ticket (regional trains only after 9).

For June 29, you can use a Quer durchs Land Ticket for 52 EUR, same restrictions as Laender ticket (regional trains only after 9).

For June 30, you can use a Regio-Ticket Main-Spessart plus Frankfurt Ticket for 36 EUR. Travel after 9 on the direct Regional Express train.

All of these are flexible if you travel after 9 on regional trains. 185 EUR total.

Görlitz is in Sachsen; Erfurt is in Thüringen. But Sachsen, Sachsen Anhalt, and Thuringen all share a single Länder-Ticket, called, for instance, a Sachsen-Ticket in Sachsen, but valid for unlimited travel in all three Länder.

For Würzburg to Frankfurt, the 36 euro fare is a Regio-Ticket Main-Spessart Plus Frankfurt, which is a regional ticket, purchable at that price at any time, including the day of travel. Only restriction is you can't use it before 9 AM. OTOH, the 38 euro ticket is a Savings Fare Ticket and is restricted to the specific train you bought it for, is non-exchangeable, and the price might go up before you buy it.

Sam & Lee, thanks very much. And I can buy all those tickets on site in Germany, or do I need to get them in advance?

Buy them out of a ticket automat at the station. If you buy from the ticket window, it will cost another 2 EUR per ticket. Write both your names on the back of the ticket.
