German rail ticket advice

At one time I stumbled upon information for fantastic German rail ticket fares that almost seemed too good to be true, and alas can't find the info again.
We will be:
3 adult women traveling together
From Munich airport to Munich (weekend)
Then later
Munich to Rothenberg (weekday)
Then finally
Rothenberg to Munich airport(weekday)

Suggestions on what tickets to buy? Any information about routes/stations/transfers also appreciated.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber (spelled burg, not berg)?

If so, all 3 of you can travel on Regional trains all together than one Bayern Ticket, after 9:00 weekdays and all day weekends and very cheaply. One ticket, all day, anywhere in Bavaria. as long as you use the regional trains.

You won't need anything as comprehensive as a Bayern Ticket for the short run into town from the airport if that is the only train you are taking on that day.

From the airport to city center use a MVV Partner day ticket (good for up to 5 people). Purchase from the MVV ticket machines.

For the other trips your cheapest option is a Bayern Ticket for three people. Costs 37€ and just pitchase from a DB ticket machine the day of travel.

A single trip ticket from the airport to the center of Munich would cost 11,20€ per person and would include transport by any means of the MVV (S-/U-Bahn, trams, buses) to get you to your final destination in the inner zone as long as are moving continually towards it. However, a Group Day Ticket for the entire MVV would only cost only 23,90€ and would be valid for up to five people all day long, on whatever means of transport you desire, even after you arrive at your hotel. You might want to use other mean of transport later that day in Munich so the Partner or Group Day Ticket would be your best deal.

Beyond that, just about the fastest route to Rothenburg and back uses only regional trains (Bayern-Ticket). You could go via Nürnberg and use the ICE, but that route would not save much, if any, time and would be much more expensive. Use the regional trains and the Bayern-Ticket.
