Reading about the Rail pass it is good for x amount of days in one month.... I plan to travel the end of June into July, will I need to buy 2 separate passes? (one for june, one for july)

No, that's just for the time span, 1 month or 30 (31) days, from, say 15 June to 14 July.
However, do you really need a rail pass at all? There are a lot of good advance purchase ticket deals for long distance and hop on/off passes for local travel. See my webpage or the Bahn.
