German Pensions

My husband and I will be travelling around Germany in May (Munich, Berlin, Aachen, Bacharach) Any suggestions for reasonably priced pensions?

In 2006, we stayed in Gasthof Hubmann ( it may be spelled w one "n") in the Fiesing section of Munich.
This is a series of apartments in the home of the Hubmanns, who live on the 1st (our 2d) floor. The location is wonderful and the price reasonable.
In Berlin, we had an apartment one block east of the Brandenburg Gate on, we belive, Friedrichstrasse. The company that rents it is located near the apartment, in the rear of buildings fronting that street.

My first suggestion is, as much as possible, stay out of big cities like Berlin and Munich. There is a world of things to see in small town Germany, and you can find reasonably priced accommodations there by looking up the small town websites at www.[town name].de. If the site is only in German, look for "Tourismus", then "Unterkünfte" or "Übernachten".
