German ICE train tickets

Hi,

Are there any issues making reservations for a German ICE train on the Austrian oebb.at website?

I need to make train reservations from Nuremberg to Vienna for 12/12/16, but Bahn.de hasn’t loaded the new schedules yet, so the 12/12 date can’t be booked through their site. However, the ticket looks like it can be booked on oebb.at, even though there is a message that says “Timetable data for 2017 has not yet been finalized. Timetable is subject to change”

I’d like to take advantage of the price savings by booking early, and it looks like aside from the availability, oebb.at has cheaper tickets. I looked at an earlier date (12/10/16) just for fun and the price on bahn.de is €59,90 and on oebb.at the same 8:30 ICE train is only €29.

Am I missing something? I don’t want to end up with a worthless ticket!

Thanks for any insight!

The ticket price on the Bahn probably reflects a ticket that has been sold out for that day at the lowest fare (at least for the Bahn's quota of tickets). Looking at the fare for 12/1, I see a fare of 39€, which is the lowest fare for which I think the Bahn will sell that ticket. If you can get it for 29€ from OeBB, I'd take it. What the Bahn is saying is that the schedule for that train might change by a few minutes, but I don't think they can sell you a ticket at that price and then change it.

Make sure that you can print the ticket from home and that it is not required to collect the ticket from an OeBB machine. OeBB machines will not be available in Germany.

Thanks for the replies. I've decided to just wait until the Bahn opens up their dates on Oct. 18. Emily made a good point about being able to print off the tickets, which I'm not positive I can do. The oebb.at site has you enter your credit card number before you get to any kind of ticket delivery page, so I think it's just safer to wait. Another plus for waiting is that then I can buy them at captaintrain.com, which is a very user friendly site. I'll just have to get on it right away before all of the saver fares are gone. Thanks again for the help!

It looks like the German Saver Fares start at 39€/person for that trip (vs 29€ from OeBB). When the tickets at that fare sell out, the next tickets are 5€ or 10€ more.
