I've been considering Gemut to rent a car for 3 weeks in Sicily in October. The reviews on this website and Trip Advisor are all over the place -- from horrific to glowing. I'd like to know if anyone has used them in the last year and what the experience was like.
I've not used Gemut. I have been using Autoeurope which is a consolidator. Their service and generally their prices are great. You might check Autoeurope just for comparison purposes.
I booked a car via Gemut.com. the rental has not begun yet. PM me in three weeks and I can tell you.
I just came back from a month-long trip to Denmark where I used Gemut to organize two car rentals. I have also used Gemut in 2018 for a car rental in Italy, in 2016 for car rentals in the UK and Ireland, and in 2014 for a car rental in Germany.
Bob Bestor has always impressed me with a deep knowledge of the rental market, terms & conditions, how to get the right car, one-way fees, etc. His emails are long, thorough and informative - definitely not the canned, corporate email correspondence you get from a Travelocity or the car rental companies themselves.
If I was going to Sicily (or anywhere in southern Europe), I would DEFINITELY rent thru Gemut! There are lots of gotchas and shady car rental outlets over there who'll try to force you into unnecessary add-ons. Knowing the price and T&Cs in advance (and having it written down) can really help take the stress out of it.
BTW, some credit cards exclude Italy from their CDW coverage - but there are some who include it. I think my Chase Freedom covered me in Italy back then.
Good luck and have a great trip!
