Gatwick Yotel or Lounge

I have a seven hour layover at Gatwick. I arrive at 10:15 AM (from Norway) and depart at 5:15 PM to Jersey. I only have carry-on. I arrive at the South Terminal and depart from the North Terminal.

Immigration shouldn't take long as I have Registerd Traveler. So I have decided to spend the time either at the Number One Lounge or get a room at the Yotel in the North Terminal. The Yotel is about 42 GBP and the lounge will be about 62 GBP.

I will have gotten little sleep the night before as I have to be at the airport about 7 AM. The Yotel would allow me to take a nap. The lounge however offers free food, drinks and fasttrack security.

The Yotel is before security, the lounge is past security.

Thoughts? Anyone have experience in the lounge?

I do not see any Gate One lounge at Gatwick.

There are No. 1 lounges in both the North and South Terminal, along with other lounges ( club. aspire). None of them will cost £65.

The No. 1 lounge in the North terminal can be booked in advance for £32. Maybe you were thinking of paying twice? The website says you can only enter 3 hours before your scheduled departure, so they would have to waive that rule for you to get in earlier than 2:15 pm. You probably cannot count on that.

Personally, I would spend the time walking, maybe getting outside a bit, and paying for whatever food and drink I needed ( and getting something I actually enjoy rather than choosing from the lounge offerings). But that's just me.

And no way would I pay £42 to take a nap in the daytime.

Yes, I meant Number One lounges. The initial cost is 32 GBP but customers can add hours at 10 GBP/hr. I checked and that's what they told me to do. In fact, when making a reservation one of the choices is adding extra hours.

I corrected the name of the lounge in my question.

I stayed at the Yotel at Heathrow. I had a nice long nap, took a shower, and then went through security to the lounge where I snacked before my connection. All went well after I got accustomed to the pod like space Yotel offered. (I don't know the cost because my airline took care of both since I was flying 1st on that trip). I have not experienced either at Gatwick but would have to assume it will be very similar overall.

To me, the nap and the ability to get cleaned up a bit for the remainder of the trip is more important than the amenities at the club.

If the Yotel is anything like the one I stayed at on the secure side at Schiphol Airport, I’d stay at it. A clean, cramped personal space to shower and take a nap is worth much to me.

If your flight is on time, The Yotel means a nice nap and even better, a shower. We did not stay as we had an overnight and went to a nearby hotel. But we checked it out. Spotless, small rooms, would not hesitate to stay there.

Thanks.....my first flight is two hours long and the second is just one hour. I'm going to the isle of Jersey, not New Jersey.

I thought the Yotel was in the South terminal.

I’ve stayed at the Gatwick yotel overnight twice before early flights. It is tiny, but pretty efficient and would be great for a nap or just lounging in bed and watching tv.

You're right Laura, my bad, the Yotel is in the South Terminal.

That means I would have to give myself extra time to go from South to North and security. I think I might just be better going to the lounge. At least there I could stay until about 45 minutes before the flight since I'm already past security. And the lounge gives me access to fast track security.

Some of the airline VIP lounges at Heathrow have shower cubicles and reclining lounge chairs that are out of earshot of the big TV monitors, so if the same is true at Gatwick, the lounge could be a one-stop shop. The buffet offerings are edible, not much more, but this is England after all...
