Gatwick to the London Eye

My husband and I will be flying into Gatwick on a Friday evening at 17:45. We want to do a night flight on the London Eye sometime that evening. Does anyone have a suggestion about the best way to do that? We'll probably have a 3-day travel card, but I'm not sure when or where to have it validated. If we take the Southern to Victoria station, can we validate it there and take the tube to Waterloo?

Also, should we splurge for a reservation on the Eye, or do you think we'd be OK to just arrive and get in line?

Thanks.

Katie,

It would really help to have a bit of further information on your plans. I'm assuming you'll be staying in London for a few days (which area)?

Also, what month will you be flying into Gatwick on a Friday evening? That will likely have a bearing on whether you might need a reservation for the BA London Eye. You probably won't be able to get there much before 20:00, so you might want to check their web site to determine operating hours.

After arrival at Gatwick, it will probably take you an hour or more to collect your luggage and clear Passport control. You can take the Gatwick Express to London Victoria (about 30 min., UK$15). There's a rail service office in the station, so I believe you'll be able to validate your travel card there (hopefully some of our rail experts can confirm that?).

I wasn't quite sure what you meant by taking "the tube to Waterloo". From the Victoria station area, I normally walk to the London Eye (across the Westminster Bridge, as I recall).

Cheers!
