Commuting between Gatwick and Heathrow thank you
Linda
I see you are a person of few words. If you google those same few words all the alternatives for travel between the two airports will come up.
This page on the London Toolkit site gives all your options.
commuting? many x? why not
I am sorry that I accidentily sent before I had a chance to type in all my thoughts. We are flying from Rome FCO to Gatwick on EasyJet and arriving at 8:35 AM. Our plane for Houston departs from Heathrow on British Airways at 2:35 PM (14:35) so we have plenty of time to get from Gatwick to Heathrow. There are 3 of us. We see where National Express will allow us to travel as a group for 51 pounds which is approx $82.00 at this writing. Is there a cheaper way to get between airports since we have 6 hours assuming our Plane arrives timely. Also since Windsor is so close to Heathrow does anyone know how when we arrive at Heathrow we could commute to Windsor? Would we have time to do a quick tour of Windsor Castle? Linda
Six hours is not as much time as you think it will be. You will need to go through immigration at Gatwick which will take some time (30 minutes to an hour). The trip from Gatwick to Heathrow takes between 1 and 1.5 hours. You need to be at Heathrow 3 hours before your transatlantic flight. You won't have time to visit Windsor and tour the castle. The National Express coach is probably the cheapest option. You could also look into using a car service between the airports. Just Airports is one that is frequently recommended.
Linda/Joe Ah, I understand a bit more now. By "commute" you mean travel. Commute usually means a frequent repetitive journey. Since there are 3 of you why not consider a private car hire - sort of a pre-booked private taxi - who will take the three of you for the same or less money (others can fill in the actual cost - I drive my own car on that route so don't know exact figures) and I bet you could arrange for very little more to include Windsor. Remember you will need to clear immigration and customs at Gatwick, and had better plan on 3 hours at Heathrow. Figure 60 to 75 minutes LGW to LHR in good traffic; add 15 to 20 minutes to include Windsor plus stopping time, again counting on good traffic.

If you like Nigel's suggestion of a driver for the transfer, I can recommend Ray Skinner at london-transfers.com. I have used his services many times.
