Gatwick baggage limits

I just read this on the Gatwick Airport site:

"From Monday 11 February, passengers on flights connecting through the North Terminal at Gatwick will be able to travel with more than one piece of hand luggage (subject to the airline’s permission). Passengers on connecting flights through the South Terminal have been able to travel with more than one piece of luggage since 7 January.

BAA Gatwick reminds passengers that the one bag rule per person continues for all other flights. This rule will be relaxed in the near future when the ongoing construction project to upgrade and expand the security facilities at the airport is completed."

Does anyone know if that construction is due to be finished by summer? And when it is, do you think Ryanair, Easyjet, and the like will relax their one carryon limit or does the size of their planes require the limit? This would be a welcome change.

The baggage restrictions by the low cost airlines were in place long before BAA imposed restrictions and they will be in place when BAA resrictions are relaxed. They are never going to change.

Currently we are being told that the North Terminal work will finish by June.

Hi Dennis,
I agree with Al- the restrictions won't change unless it is to get worse!!!
but then again, they are cheap flights!
