anybody know what gas costs there now? i always rent a car, but if the gas is too expensive, i may just do trains instead. any feedback would be appreciated. thanks

I looked at a website http://www.idealspain.com/pages/Information/costliving.htm that said diesel is 1.05/liter ($4.78 per gallon, US) and gasoline is $1.12/liter ($5.12 per gallon). Last time we were there we rented a diesel vehicle because they get better mileage.

Diesel in Madrid last month was 1.13 Euro/litre...gas about 1.19/litre. That works out to about $6.80 and $7.20/gal. Laurie, I think that, even with your figures, your math is a little out of whack...the exchange rate for the Euro is far worse now...more like $1.60/1 Euro.
