GAS tour, fly into Luxembourg or Frankfurt?

Any suggestions or experiences of flying into either Luxembourg or Frankfurt for the GAS tour? Please include info on train travel choices from Luxembourg or Frankfurt to Trier.
Thanks

Bridgette, I suspect that Frankfurt will be a better choice as it's a major European hub so has a LOT of flights and probably better prices. There are two rail stations (Regional and long distance) right at the Frankfurt, and travel time to Trier is as short as 2H:48M with one change (that will depend on which train you're able to connect with). If you can find good prices and a direct flight into Luxembourg, that may also be an option as the travel time to Trier will be much shorter (about 50 minutes) from the station. However, you'd need to get from the airport to the main station by Bus AFAIK, so that will also take time. I assume you'll be departing from Atlanta? If you decide to fly into Luxumbourg, you'll likely have to connect somewhere (AMS?). However, you should be able to find a direct flight from ATL to FRA (Lufthansa has one with a flight time of 8H:55M). Good luck with your planning!

Ken, Thanks for the info, am just starting the planning of the flights etc. Right now prices into Luxembourg are about $30 more than to Frankfurt but have not checked out trains.

Trier is served by a frequent local train service from the main station in Luxembourg. Luxembourg buses and trains are part of a well organized integrated system, CFL. There are buttons at the bottom of the web page to switch from French to German, but no English. We have found that while local Luxembourgers speak Letzebourgish to each other or French or German depending on where in the country, most have a decent amount of English but all official websites tend to be in both French and German. The trains to and from Trier and Luxembourg are mostly German DB commuter trains with some very nice CFL ones from time to time. It is a nice easy scenic ride. The ride up the Mosel by train from Frankfurt would be scenic too.
