Does anybody know how far the walk within the Gar Du Nord is to transfer from the RER to the Blue Line? From the map I saw, it looks considerable, but it may be easier than changing lines.

I assume you mean Metro line 2 which you would catch at La Chapelle. The Journey Planner on the RATP site says that it's a 2-minute walk through the tunnels from Gare du Nord to La Chapelle.

Mike, it will serve you better to think of the Metro lines by their numbers and not by their colours. The "blue" line you refer to (No. 2, we surmise) is actually mauve on my metro map, anyway. And if you need to ask someone for directions to somewhere by Metro, the reply will always give you the Metro Line numbers, not the colours.
