Since we will be traveling between Martigny and Chamonix later this fall (and being a rail fan ) I was interested in knowing when full service would be restored on this line due to the ongoing track work . Lola , yes , reouverture does mean reopening . With my latent high school French ( trying to catch up now , should have paid more attention back then ! ) and my Oxford French dictionary , I've been able to decode this ! " troncon " means section . It seems that they are also working on the Chamonix to St. Gervais leg as well . Needless to say we are looking forward to the trip from Martigny to Chamonix with great anticipation and weren't too thrilled with the thought of the bus substitutions !! I'm guessing that apart from the substitutions they list , the line will be fully operational around September 1 . I remain addled about the remarks pertaining to complete opening by 8 December , but I'll keep looking over the summer .

Thanks, Steven. I have been trying to figure that out from the Swiss rail site with no success. Does "Réouverture" mean re-opening? If you are there during the "preview" period, will you be able to ride a train the whole way? (It is an amazing trip for a train aficionado, BTW, especially on the Swiss side as you near the border).
