Fussen to Florence

Hello! What is the best way to get to Florence from Fussen? We will be going to Fussen, from Munich, for the day. Then we will be heading to Florence via an overnight train. I have tentatively looked on the German train website, but they show us going back to Munich then down to Florence. I feel that is about 2 hours out of the way. Is is possible to go from Fussen to Innsbruck, Austria and then catch a night train to Florence? Have any of you done this before? What are your opinions? Are there any other routes? OR do we have to go back to Munich? We have a global saver eurail pass. Thanks in advance for your time and answers!

DB is giving you the best schedules. I think your problem is that the night trains from Munich to Florence go through Innsbruck late at night - one around 11 PM, the other at 1:30 AM. There just aren't many trains arriving in Innsbruck at that time of night. Those that do, it seems, are coming from Munich.

You can book reservations from Innsbruck on either night train from Nachtzugreise, the official booking website for German Rail night trains, at http://buchung.nachtzugreise.de. You would just have to plan, however, to go from Füssen to Innsbruck earlier in the day.

Note, that if you use Nachtzugreise, one train goes from Munich to Firenze S.M.N. station; the other goes to Campo di Marte station.
