Fuel Surcharge

Hi hoping to get some advice on when to book my ticket. Normally I am an early planner and like to book very early, but this year I am not sure. I am going to fly into Cairo and out of London leaving the last week of April 09. I was all set to book my tickets this week, when Air Canada (who I plan to book with because I will get the miles) announced they were dropping their fuel surcharge. I was so excited, I raced off to their site, only to learn that this only applied to flights within North America. So here it is, do I wait and maybe see if they drop the fuel surcharge for international flights or do I just go ahead and book? If so when? The fuel surcharge for the flight I want is almost $400!

Cora....what Air Canada actually said is that they're including the fuel surcharge in the initial price of the tickets, instead of tacking it on at the end of the booking process. It's a transparent attempt by the airline to resist pressures to drop their charges to follow the declining world prices for oil. When other airlines are forced to cut their fuel surcharges as fuel price decrease, Air Canada will be able to resist that consumer pressure because you won't be able to tell how much their fuel surcharge is.

Thanks Norm I guess I was just too optimistic. While I know they are trying to create more transparity which is great, is almost seems a little decieving because the way I understood it was they were dropping the fuel surcharge all together. Once again I have leanred you have to read the fine print!
